Annotation | One of the most developed European Union (EU) social policy programmes is the women's policy, originating in Article 119 of the Treaty of Rome on equal pay, through to its current spread of policy initiatives, legislative provisions and funding programmes. It is the only EU policy where legislative measures have been activated by a mobilised political force in the form of women's organisations. This book traces the development of the women's policy across the EU member states using a wide range of primary sources, including original interviews with some of the key women involved at grassroots, professional and official levels. Drawing on feminist theory, together with approaches from international relations, the book aims to give a new perspective of the politics of the EU. |
