Annotation | In order to further develop the Health Education Authority's (HEA) strategy for the promotion of physical activity, a qualitative study was undertaken to examine the factors which motivate people to adopt a physically active lifestyle, to compare the characteristics of physically active and inactive people, and to assess the best communication strategy. Findings from group discussions and interviews with people from all age groups showed that there is a need for an education campaign to promote increased levels of physical activity, and that people aged 55 years and over need to be targeted separately.
