Annotation | Sheltered housing and other forms of supportive accommodation and services have an important role in helping older people with dementia to live at home. This study workbook aims to provide staff in sheltered housing with an understanding of the needs of people with dementia. The first part explains the different types of dementia; considers the impact of dementia on the person and on the family; discusses the importance of care planning; and looks at issues of communication, including management of challenging behaviour. The second part outlines the changes brought by the NHS and Community Care Act 1990; describes the community services available; and discusses issues relating to staff development and line management communication. |
