Annotation | Memory clinics provide a specialist outpatient service offering assessment, early diagnosis, treatment and advice for people with memory disorders, in particular those with dementia. This article suggests that such clinics provide excellent opportunities for the development of early joint caregiver/patient interventions which may help to alleviate and prevent some difficulties. It describes programmes provided by some clinics, and looks at some psychosocial intervention strategies targeted at patients and their families in the early stages of dementia, including cognitive-behavioural therapy, counselling, and helping families to adjust to their new role. |
