KeywordsHome care services ; Inspection ; Scotland.
AnnotationIn 1994, a team from the Social Work Services Inspectorate of the Scottish Office carried out a major inspection of the home help service and the older people who use the service. They studied six areas of Scotland, in rural and urban communities, reflecting different characteristics of the service. These were Kelso, Falkirk, Glasgow, Dundee, Lanark, and the Uists in the Western Isles. The objective was to evaluate how well home help services meet the needs of older people and their carers, and to judge whether these services are effective, economic and accessible. This summary outlines the team's main findings and their recommendations for action. The full report, 'A service in transition', is published in Edinburgh by HMSO. (RH).
