Annotation | Older people are not only likely to experience health problems themselves; they may also be caring for a spouse or other dependent. The author describes the "health in retirement" programme developed in Burnham-on-Sea. This comprises sessions on health-related, lifestyle topics of interest to older people: safety; benefits; gas safety; the role of social services; and retirement and ageing and its effects on continence and sexual activity. Evaluation by the programme's participants showed a high level of satisfaction, indicating its value in giving older people access to health and other services. (RH). |
