Annotation | This report, commissioned by Southwark Social Services Department, is about improving access to community care services for black and ethnic minority services in the borough. The findings highlight the range of ethnic-specific services provided by voluntary and community-based service providers and their support organisations - whose views were sought in the survey - filling gaps in mainstream services, including providing direct domiciliary home-based services. However, such organisations need to secure proper funding and support, if they are to improve their services and be accepted as part of the care management process. The report concludes that culturally-based services were essential to improving access, and that there was a need for different models of service delivery to be available to meet clients' needs. |
