Annotation | Urinary incontinence on hospital rehabilitation wards is associated with longer hospital stay and a higher proportion of discharges to institutional care. This article looks at the role of continence promotion on such wards, using 3 case studies (of which 2 involve older patients). Continence promotion includes all non-surgical therapies that enable a person to recover continence, such as bladder training and anticholinergic drugs. Some of the available methods for quantifying incontinence, such as interviews and questionnaires; urinary diary, pad tests and transabdominal ultrasound, are also described. |
