Annotation | The authors assessed depressive symptomatology and its correlates in a sample of 45 Chinese American older people (aged 59-89) living in the community in a mid-west city. A structured questionnaire was developed for the project and administered by trained bilingual interviewers. 20% of the sample had clinically significant depressive symptoms. Life satisfaction, social support, health status, functional status, number of years present in America, level of acculturation, and command of English language were found to be inversely related to depressive symptoms.
