Speculation about future housing for the elderly | Author(s) | Satya Brink |
Journal title | GRC News, vol 16, no 1, May 1997 |
Pages | pp 3-5 |
Keywords | Housing [elderly] ; Living patterns ; Demography ; Canada. |
Annotation | In Canada, the assumptions for demographic projections are likely to hold for the next 20 years, because they are slow to change and are fairly resistant to policy interventions, with the exception of immigration and emigration. It remains to be seen whether demand for housing when the ageing of baby boomers peaks in about 2011 will be met. Sharing of housing could become a major factor; and for women of advanced age, living with relatives may be attractive for economic and social support reasons. |
