Annotation | Local authorities are discovering the hidden costs to their pensions funds of treating redundancy and ill health as reasons for early retirement. The solution will soon by the very problem which local authorities are seeking to solve: services will have to be cut, making more staff redundant to pay for these services. To promote better management of the ill-health and early retirement schemes, the United Kingdom Steering Committee (UKSC) is recommending local authorities to identify the true costs before taking decisions, reviewing policies on payments, and drawing up of local guidelines. |
