AnnotationGood practice in meeting the spiritual and religious needs of older people in residential care homes is explored. The project is based on visits to residential care homes throughout England and Scotland, representing a variety of faiths, and on interviews with care staff, pastoral visitors, and residents themselves. In addition, much of the information is based on a one day seminar on Spirituality in Homes for Older People organised by Counsel and Care, and attended by theologians, academics, managers and practitioners. Recommendations on how both religious and secular residential homes can meet the spiritual and religious needs of its residents are made, including: help residents to attend local places of worship; arrange for in-house services to be held; be aware of regularly recurring festivals and other significant commemorative events in the lives of individuals.
