Annotation | As winter approaches, elderly patients are at risk of being shunted out of 'blocked' beds and scapegoated for the funding crisis which is affecting health and social services. This article takes as its starting point the Centre for Policy on Ageing (CPA) report, 'Patient satisfaction: the discharge of older people from hospital' by Gillian Dalley and Michael Denniss. Representatives of the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) and the Association of Directors of Social Services (ADSS) also express concern, particularly as Health Secretary, Frank Dobson, has written to health authorities, social services and housing departments, urging them to work together more closely, and avoid the previous winter's hospital bed crisis. |
