When will the biology of aging become useful? — future landmarks in biomedical gerontology | Author(s) | Richard A Miller |
Journal title | Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, vol 45, no 10, October 1997 |
Pages | pp 1258-1267 |
Keywords | Biological ageing ; Health [elderly] ; Biological sciences. |
Annotation | This article considers a number of scientific discoveries not yet made regarding the biochemical basis of the ageing process. It looks at problems and prospects in the areas of comparative biology, mammalian and invertebrate genetics, biomarker research, caloric restriction and clonal senescence, and discusses the links between ageing and disease. The author suggests that further attention to the basic biology of the ageing process, and the links that connect ageing to late life disease, may lead to advances in applied biogerontology. |
