Annotation | This study describes the use of drugs in an older population with respect to dementia status, age, sex and type of accommodation, using data from the Kungsholmen project, a longitudinal community study of people aged 75 and over in Stockholm, Sweden. Results show that drug use was greater in women, people aged 85 years and over, and people living in institutions. In particular, the use of psychotropic drugs was high and the use of cardiovascular drugs were low in institutions. Patients with dementia were prescribed fewer drugs overall, but took more opioids and fewer laxatives and minor analgesics than non-demented patients. |
