KeywordsOlder women ; Exercise ; Behaviour ; Attitude.
AnnotationThe aim of this study was to explore how older women interpret their exercise experiences, and how such interpretations affect exercise maintenance. Participants in the study completed instruments measuring episode-specific and general interpretations of exercise, exercise behaviour, and demographic variables. At the episode-specific level, individuals interpret exercise behaviour during and after each episode of exercise, whereas at the general level, interpretations involve information from both the most recent episode and previous episodes. Results showed that episode-specific interpretations accounted for unique variance in exercise behaviour. Age and amount of concentration placed on feet and bodily movements were negatively related to perceived exercise behaviour, whereas perceived exercise benefits were positively related to exercise behaviour.
