AnnotationCoronary heart disease is the major cause of death in post-menopausal women in many industrialised countries, and will become epidemic in elderly women as the population ages, unless preventive interventions are undertaken across the life span. Risk factors and results of studies need to be evaluated, so that preventive measures are instituted throughout a woman's lifetime. Although reference is made to mortality in other countries, the article has a predominantly American perspective.
