AnnotationBreast examination is important in older women, in whom the incidence of breast cancer is higher. In this study of 100 female inpatients aged 71-94 years and 100 hospital doctors at two hospitals on the Wirral, questionnaire results suggest that older female patients have a positive attitude towards breast examinations, which is not reflected by the attitudes and practice of hospital doctors. The authors conclude that there needs to be a change in attitudes and training so that older women do not miss out on diagnosis and treatment.
