Annotation | Better information could improve the effectiveness and safety of drug use. The author suggests that any drug likely to be used by older people should be required to undergo pre-marketing testing in patients with an age distribution comparable to that expected when the drug is in routine use. Whilst the lives of older patients are improved by development of new drugs, a significant number experience serious adverse events, which could have been anticipated if better information were available to the practitioner. |
