AnnotationThis is the second edition of the BGS compendium of guidelines, containing 23 papers divided into seven sections: a general section on geriatric services for older people, including standards of medical care for older people; health promotion and preventive care; collaboration with other specialities, such as acute care and old age psychiatry; interface between hospital and community; community, private and independent sector, including continuing care assessment of older people, and work of the geriatrician in the community; training and manpower; and ethics and law, including guidelines on artificial hydration and nutrition in older patients; procedures for compulsory admission; advice on resuscitation policies and information about abuse of older people. These guidelines are occasionally updated or revised within each published edition. Most of the Compendium documents can also be printed off the BGS website: www.bgs.org.uk (KJ).
