AnnotationThe independent Commission on Social Justice was set up at the instigation of John Smith, Leader of the Labour Party, in December 1992, to conduct a wide-ranging review of social and economic change in the UK. This paper discusses options for reform of the UK's pension system. It examines problems with the current system, and economic principles behind reform. Proposals are made on unified systems, minimum pension levels, and the options for earning related schemes: SERPS, occupational pensions, Industry Pensions, and personal pensions.
