AnnotationThe consultation brought together opinion formers to discuss issues relating to social policy within our ageing society, from the age of twelve years upwards. Papers were presented on: youth in an ageing society; intergenerational cooperation as a basis for social policy; older people's exercising of choice and participation; and factors affecting development of social policy. The consultation made recommendations on: positive views of ageing; government responsibility for creating conditions to maintain physical, mental, social and economic independence; the personal contributions people can make to society as they age; and regular review of social policy on ageing. An address by the then Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health, Tim Yeo, is included.
