AnnotationThis study explores the effect of personal and state attributes on the return and onward inter-state migration behaviour of people aged 65 years and over, and examines whether there is evidence of a systematic change in individual migration behaviour with increasing age. State attributes found to influence migration patterns include weather and temperature; ethnic similarity; size of older population in the state; geographical distance to the state of birth; and Medicare expenditure. Personal characteristics found to influence the migration choices include age; level of education and marital status. Evidence was found that older people aged 65-69 and those aged 75 and over migrate for different reasons.
