Annotation | Adult day care is one type of respite service that is frequently mentioned as being valuable for family caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's disease. However, despite its suggested benefits, actual usage is low. In this study, carers of persons with Alzheimer's disease were interviewed by telephone to identify their perceptions of benefits and barriers to use of such services. Both users and non-users reported barriers ( lack of convenience; cost; patient concerns; lack of information), but more users overcame the barriers to use the service. Both users and non-users recognised the benefits to the caregiver from using adult day care, but only users saw the service as being mainly of benefit to the patient. |
