Annotation | In this study, the effect of gender and family composition on the pattern of assistance by employed adult children to their older parents is examined, using a subsample from the Canadian Aging and Research Network (CARNET) Work and Family Survey of persons who provide at least one hour of help weekly. Family composition variables include gender and marital status; number of brothers and sisters; number of children; and the gender of the parent. It is concluded that the gendered nature of family life applies to employed men and women who help their older parents. |
