AnnotationThis paper is one of a series of briefings prepared for the "Older People in Europe" Conference organised by the European Resource Unit in January 1995, focusing on themes and issues which will have been addressed by the European Commission's proposed Second Programme on Old People in 1996. This paper looks at the impact of the European Year of Older People and Solidarity between Generations as discussed at an International Conference held in Preston, highlighting the lives and experiences of black, minority ethnic and migrant older people in Europe, and future directions for policy. Some UK case studies are summarised: Age Concern Haringey and the Greek Cypriot community; 'Strathclyde Roots' (Chinese and Asian people); the Liverpool Personal Service Society (older Chinese and Afro-Caribbean people); Age Concern Wandsworth's Asian Carer Support Service; Age Concern Leicester; Newcastle's club for Chinese elders; and a sheltered housing scheme for the Asian community in Calderdale, West Yorkshire.
