AnnotationThis conference sought to examine common interests shared by all carers, and the uniqueness of carers from differing situations, such as those in black and ethnic minority communities, those caring for survivors of head injuries, and carers who are children. The Act is regarded as important in its emphasis on carers' needs, and the problem of adequate resourcing was raised by contributors and in workshop sessions. One of the main provisions of the Act is that it entitles carers to an assessment of their own situation; speakers and participants recognised it was enabling progress to be made in acknowledging carers' needs, interests and rights.
