Annotation | In 1997, the Department of Health (DoH) commissioned the CPA (Centre for Policy on Ageing) in conjunction with the Centre for Health Economics at the University of York, to estimate demand pressures for older people's social service needs. This briefing outlines some problems of forecasting demand pressures - identified as living alone, onset of dementia, recent hospital episode, recent bereavement, and NHS policies - and factors mitigating demand. An interim report has been submitted to the DoH; a final report will be submitted shortly. A new CPA commission, again in conjunction with the Centre for Health Economics, from a metropolitan borough, will review a model for allocation of the Special Transitional Grant (STG) budget for the purchase of residential and nursing home care. |
