Annotation | In 1984 the World Health Assembly discussed ways of promoting rational use uf drugs, and a World Health Organization (WHO) Technical Group reported on patterns of drug prescribing for older people. It found that half of the total drug consumption is by people aged 60 years and over in those countries where the proportion of this age group is high. The aim of this book is to promote efficient and safe drug use in older people. It looks at some of the problems with drug therapy in older people, how ageing may affect drug action and adverse drug reactions. The main part of the book focuses on the pharmacological treatment of various disorders, including disorders of the alimentary tract and metabolism; blood and blood-forming organs; cardiovascular system; musculoskeletal system; nervous system; respiratory system; and sensory organs. |
