AnnotationThis book analyses the role of pensions in retirement security in the future, examining how they will be able to withstand the challenges to the United States retirement system. It investigates areas where pensions have succeeded and failed over the last decades and looks at new developments in the pensions arena, including hybrid and cash-balance plans. Pension funding regulations, changes in GATT laws, altering pension insurance premiums, and developments concerning administrative costs and pension obligation bonds are also addressed. The book also describes the findings from new research on defined contribution plan investment options, and explores three case studies of participant-directed pension investments.
