AnnotationThis article describes a health promotion programme in Italy which trains healthy older people aged 50 to 76 years. The experience is based on collaboration among social researchers, an association of elderly volunteers, and some medical teams. At the same time, a traditional method was used to give medical information to older people. The two programmes are compared, and their achievements evaluated. The principal characteristic of the research is the constant monitoring and assessment of the interventions, the aim being to demonstrate the utility of the educational approach.
