Annotation | This article describes the contribution of horticultural therapy to rehabilitation and the impact of managed care at a skilled nursing facility (SNF). Two SNF programmes are departments in the hospital setting where horticultural therapy is used as a treatment alongside occupational therapy, physical therapy, and speech and language pathology, with other staff or by the horticultural therapist alone. A variety of horticultural therapy services are provided as part of indoor and outdoor recreational therapy programming. Success-oriented projects for the short-stay rehabilitation patient are noted. The treatment session format provides a consistent structure to optimise rehabilitation progress. |
