Annotation | Information about the workforce in independent sector residential and nursing homes, and the level of training attained by staff, is vital for those within local authorities who commission and purchase care from them, as well as those managing and working in the independent sector. This article summarises findings from the Local Government Management Board's Independent sector workforce study 1996 (LGMB, 1997). It examines the context of care, characteristics of the workplace, recruitment and retention of staff, and their qualifications and training. Implications of the survey are discussed. |
