Dementia in the elderly: management | Author(s) | Tom Arie |
Journal title | British Medical Journal, 8 December 1973 |
Pages | pp 602-604 |
Keywords | Dementia ; Needs [elderly] ; Management [care]. |
Annotation | Dementia greatly increases the likelihood that an old person will eventually need institutional care, but it is not in itself grounds for removal from home. The doctor's job is to see that all available medical and social sources of help are deployed and to co-ordinate and monitor their provision. This article discusses care at home, day care, financial matters, informal and compulsory hospital admission, support services, residential accommodation, and medication. |
