Annotation | This study explores the impact of the NHS and Community Care Act 1990 on care needs of disabled and older people living in a rural village in South West England, and draws on the views of service users and practitioners with regard to support services. Respondents have noticed no improvement in the accessibility or adequacy of health and social services, nor have they been empowered to participate in design of care. A government policy of community care as care by 'the family' or by 'the neighbourhood' is the cause of serious concern to vulnerable people who fear a future of increasing isolation and professional neglect. |
