AnnotationThis report looks at developments in housing and community care through the findings of 21 research projects supported by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), carried out between 1993 and 1996. The projects reflect varied and sometimes contrasting perspectives, but with two key themes present in all the studies: the integration of housing and support within mainstream provision; and the influence of the service user in the design and delivery of service. The research findings are examined with reference to: housing expectation and quality of provision; decision-making and planning services; and finding and funding support. Three policy proposals are made: making effective use of housing stock in support of community care goals; national guidance on preventative support services for inclusion in local strategies; and establishment of advocacy and advice services with user involvement.
