AnnotationThe general aim of this study, carried out at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, was to investigate factors affecting judgement of risk and attitudes to road safety. Its main objectives were: to increase the understanding of people's perception of risk and their attitudes to road users; to identify the reasons underlying what determines whether a road safety measure is acceptable or unacceptable; and to suggest ways of changing attitudes through environmental aspects, promotional activities, or different approaches to enforcement. This summary outlines the study's size and scope, and the main findings on acceptability of countermeasures, changing attitudes, and potential applications of research.
