Annotation | Following an increase in the range of psychological treatments used to treat psychiatric disorders in younger adults, there is increasing interest in the use of these techniques with older patients. This paper outlines the use of cognitive therapy, a structured psychological treatment suitable for treatment of depressive and anxiety disorders, and for treatment of combined physical and psychological symptoms. It examines evidence for its effectiveness with older people, and describes the adaptations required when working with an older age group. |
