Annotation | This book explores popular references to quality of life. It compares the three main contexts in which quality of life has technical meanings: medicine, the social sciences, and economic and environmental planning. Quality of life values are examined, and applied to different areas of social policy: planning for sustainable development, regional development, housing, health services, personal social services, and financial services. How quality of life may be measured is considered, the wider implications of which are explored as they relate to major institutions in society: the state, pressure groups, the voluntary sector, inter-governmental and non-governmental organisations, the church, and corporate behaviour generally. |
