AnnotationThe author identifies the two baby boom cohorts (those born in the immediate post-war years and those born in the early 1960s), and examines why they should be of concern for social policy analysts, in terms of income support in later life and the need for social care. The demography of the baby boomers is all too clear as a reason for this concern: marriage and childbearing are either postponed or foregone altogether; and the increasing numbers of divorces will mean long spells of lone parenthood and living alone in old age.
