AnnotationContemporary feminists - including Susan Sontag, Germaine Greer, May Sarton, and Ursula Le Guin - articulate views of women and ageing that account for differences between men and women in later life and among women themselves. In this collection of contributions which have previously appeared in other sources, chapters are arranged under four main themes. 'Situating' addresses social construction, and demonstrates the links between gender inequality and political economy in the material condition of older women. 'Problematizing' focuses on the menopause, age and gender, race, class, sexuality, ethnicity and nationality. 'Representing' offers writings on the images of women and ageing in visual, literary, performance and cinematic arts. 'Privileging' extends the search for affirmative images of older women, and are in the form of personal narratives that challenge popular stereotypes.
