AnnotationThis study examined 10-year changes in selected objective and subjective dimensions of quality of life in a group of older Eastern Finnish women. Data was collected by means of questionnaires in 1982 and in 1992. Self-rated health, self-rated physical fitness, satisfaction with family life and economic situation, functional capacity, reported symptoms, frequency of physical exercise, and occurrence of diseases were measured. In addition, the women were asked to rate their current life situation compared with the situation 5 years earlier. The main finding was that the women's perception of their own health remained unchanged even though their physical health status and functional capacity declined during the same period. This corresponds with findings from other studies, which suggest that older people tend to have positive feelings about their own health.
