Annotation | Sleep disturbances are common in people with Parkinson's disease, and have also shown to have an effect on their spouses. In this study, the prevalence of self-rated sleep disturbance in patients with Parkinson's disease and their spouses was compared with healthy controls, and the association of sleep disturbance with demographic, psychological, and disease variables was assessed. Sleep disturbances were found to be significantly higher in women than in men, including spouses, and were found to be predicted by the person's depression rating. An additional sleep disturbance was reported by spouses, which was associated with waking during the night to help the patient. |
