AnnotationThis longitudinal study examined the health and socio-economic status of rural older people in Croatia, in particular, the effects of socio-economic development on the lives of older people. Data was collected from a sample of older people through interviews and questionnaires in 1969, 1973 and 1974, on their health, social protection; accommodation; family structure; activities; leisure and social life; living conditions; nutrition; clothing; status within the family and attitudes toward life; and economic status. Findings revealed that rapid economic and social development had altered family relationships, however, the family remained the main source of financial and social support for older people.
