Annotation | This article reports the findings of a replication and validation study of the factor structure of the Reminiscence Functions Scale (RFS), completed by 399 adults aged 17 to 45. A principal components analysis indicated the viability of an eight-factor scale, measuring: boredom reduction, death preparation, identity, problem-solving, conversation, intimacy maintenance, bitterness revival, and teach/inform. Although internal consistency scores ranged from .74 to.86 and closely duplicated original scores, the author suggests there is room for improvement: additional measures of reliability (e.g. test-retest) and validity need to be assessed. |
