Preparation for caregiving a study of multigeneration families | Author(s) | S Sörensen, S H Zarit |
Journal title | International Journal of Aging and Human Development, vol 42, no 1, 1996 |
Pages | pp 43-63 |
Keywords | Family care ; Multi generation families ; United States of America. |
Annotation | This article investigates the extent to which family members anticipate and plan for future caregiving, and the extent to which they are satisfied with these preparations. Interviews were conducted with mothers, daughters and grand-daughters in 33 multi-generation families. While substantial numbers of both mothers and daughters anticipated the need for care for the oldest generation, few made concrete plans about how to organise future care provision. Planners were more satisfied with the amount of discussion and planning in their family than non-planners. Implications for future research and practice applications are discussed. |
