AnnotationIn 1983, the Pan American Health Organization and the countries of the region established a general plan of action for comprehensive care of older people, and requested each country to submit socioeconomic, demographic and service information. This report presents the findings of a household survey of a nationwide sample of older community-dwelling people living in Costa Rica, designed to describe the needs of older people as they themselves perceive them. Topics included in the survey were: health status and use of medical services and medicines; physical functioning and activities of daily living (ADL); socio-economic factors; social relationships, including family, friends and neighbours; financial situation; informal care; and self-expressed problems and needs.
