Annotation | This book describes some ideas on the use of the arts in health and health care, and is aimed at clinical and professional staff, to help them improve the quality of life of those in their care. The contributors show that the arts must be an integral part of people's lives, and stress that environment and the arts can affect the individual, and that aesthetic stimuli can change mood and behaviour. They examine many aspects of using the arts, including: working with new or existing buildings; involving the community; involving different user groups, such as older people and those with learning disabilities; and evaluating the effect of the arts on patients' recovery and staff attitude. Also included is a chapter on reminiscence work with older people in health care settings. |
