Annotation | Continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) are private sector, planned communities for older people in the United States, which provide their residents with housing, amenities, and a range of services, including support such as nursing home care. The authors present findings from a longitudinal study of 2000 residents in 19 CCRCs in four states in the mid to late 1980s. Information is presented on residents' background, their reasons for choosing CCRCs, their experiences, and quality of life. The use of Medicare-covered medical care by CCRC residents is also discussed. |
