AnnotationThe main purpose of this report was to serve the Canadian delegation to the United Nations World Assembly on Aging held in 1982. It is divided into four main sections, covering the demographic aspects of the ageing population, the humanitarian issues, the developmental issues, and research and education. The humanitarian issues consider the specific needs of older people, including income security, employment, health, housing and environment, the family, social welfare, and education and recreation. The developmental issues are those which arise as a result of the effects of an ageing population on society and the effects of a changing society on older people, including economic, social and political issues. Research and education are discussed in the final section, and the need for coordination of research among the different governmental jurisdictions is highlighted.
